Space Usage Information

  • The Gallery space usage period is two (2) weeks.
  • You may take possession of the gallery at 8:00 a.m. on the beginning date of your rental period, and you must vacate the gallery by 6:00 p.m. on the ending date of your usage period – no exceptions.
  • You will be contacted prior to your beginning date and given the access code for opening the gallery.
  • Exhibit dates are not confirmed until the delivery of your Usage Agreement Contract and Liability Release Form and initial deposit.
  • In addition to the Usage Agreement Contract, you will need to provide the Facility and Park Use Permit Application.
  • The Gallery reserves the right to cancel your show. As a result, the Gallery will provide a letter in writing explaining the reason(s) the show was canceled along with the refund of the initial deposit of $250.
  • The Annex Room is located inside the gallery. This room will not be available as an additional show space. You may use it for your reception.
  • This room is being used for storage for the gallery pedestals and four glass display cases. All these items may be used for your show. This room can also be used for storing items while showing in the gallery.
  • This room may be used for an art workshop while using the gallery.
  • Please contact the Gallery Director to confirm.
  • The total space usage fee is $495.
  • The deposit fee is $250 due when your show is selected, and your Usage Agreement Contract and Liability Release Form is received.
  • A balance of $245 is due sixty (60) days prior to the scheduled exhibition dates.
  • If you decide to cancel your show –
All cancellation requests must be made in writing and sent to director@villageartsoutreach.org.
  • Cancellations made 60 days or more before your show date:

    • You will receive a full refund of your show fee,

    • minus a $50 administrative fee.

    • Note: The application fee is non-refundable.

  • Cancellations made less than 60 days before your show date:

    • No refunds will be issued.

  • All work exhibited must be original, produced by the exhibitor(s) and representative of the body of work as juried. Art not of the same quality as submitted images will be removed from the exhibit.
  • Artwork may also include nudes as approved by the Art Center Board of Directors on 11-10-08.
  • All work sold during the duration of the show must be replaced with work of similar quality.
  • Exhibit installation is the responsibility of the artist(s).
  • Two movable walls are included in the Gallery and may be used for exhibitors’ display.  These walls may not be removed from the Gallery.
  • The following items are not approved for hanging your artwork: double-stick tapes, adhesives, large shank nails/bolts, expanding wall anchors. NOTE: Failure to abide by installation requirements will result in forfeiture of cleaning deposit and disqualification from future exhibits at VILLAGE ARTS OUTREACH gallery.
  • All wall labels must be prepared professionally; hand lettering is not acceptable.
  • Art that is placed on the floor or windowsills is done so at the risk of the exhibitor.
  • Windowsill displays must be “two-sided” to present an equally pleasing appearance from inside and outside the gallery. No frame backs, display supports, etc., are to be visible from outside.
  • Two glass poster cases must be used for announcing current shows.
    • 1. Outside the gallery, (key is in desk drawer on a long leather fob;)
    • 2. At the South entrance of the VILLAGE ARTS CENTER, around the corner from VILLAGE ARTS OUTREACH gallery.
  • Trash must be removed from the Gallery daily and placed in the blue dumpster located in the back parking lot (North end of Village Arts Center).
  • Exhibitors are encouraged to hold a reception sometime during their rental period. There is a refrigerator available in the gallery’s kitchen for use during the exhibit.
  • Food and drinks must be placed in the refrigerator immediately after the reception. Nothing is to be left out on the counters.
  • Food items may be provided at your reception. 
NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES can be served.
  • The refrigerator may be used for the duration of your exhibition. Any items left must be disposed of after the close of the exhibition.
  • If usage of the patio outside the Gallery is desired, a permit can be requested with 60 days advanced notice. Contact the Gallery Director.
  • Maintain the Gallery in a presentable, professional condition.
  • DRIVING VEHICLES ON THE ART CENTER PATIO IS PROHIBITED AT ALL TIMES. A $50.00 fine will be imposed on anyone breaking this rule.
  • The Gallery must remain open to the public from 11:00 to 4:00 p.m. daily—no exceptions.
  • Lights must be turned off each night before leaving. Failure to do so will result in a fine of twenty-five dollars ($50.00) per night that the lights are left on.
  • The Gallery Insurance will cover Liability, but not damage or loss of artwork. 
Artists should carry their own insurance.
  • Artists may sell their artwork while using the gallery.
  • It is encouraged that artists, along with showing their artwork, may offer a small class to teach their art and offer demonstrations while using the gallery.
  • It is the responsibility and requirement from the City of San Diego of the exhibitors to obtain their own SELLER’S PERMIT. www.cdtfa.ca.gov/taxes-and-fees/faqseller.htm
  • Artists are responsible for filing their own Sales Tax to the Franchise Tax Board (FTB).
  • It is the responsibility and requirement from the City of San Diego of the exhibitors to obtain their own BUSINESS TAX CERTIFICATE. https://www.sandiego.gov/treasurer/taxesfees/btax/btaxhow
  • Please make a copy of both documents and give to the VILLAGE ARTS OUTREACH Director when you start your usage period.
  • WE ARE NO LONGER TAKING A COMMISSION ON SALES.

 

  • Remove all items from the refrigerator and clear the kitchen area of all leftover food/personal items.
  • Clean the microwave and the refrigerator, inside and out.
  • Lock the gallery by pressing the lock button.
  • After the expiration of this agreement, any artwork left in the Gallery will become the property of Village Arts and Education Foundation and the Gallery.

VILLAGE ARTS OUTREACH IS AN OUTREACH GALLERY

Artists of VILLAGE ARTS CENTER, including members of all guilds, can only show in VILLAGE ARTS OUTREACH if they fall into one or more of the following categories:

  1. In the case of an organized small group show, only 20% of the artists are allowed to be artists at VILLAGE ARTS CENTER.
  2. If the VILLAGE ARTS CENTER artist is a part of a juried show.
  3. By special invitation with Board approval, i.e. New Artists Show or Village Arts and Education Teacher’s Show
