Artist Bio

Jose Luis Nunez is an artistic painter who enjoys color and the vibrations of light and shade. Color means life and radiant plenitude in his paintings. He usually paints with oils because they allow him to use thick layers of paint and to leave traces of brush strokes.

California and the American Southwest deeply resonate in his soul and, therefore, have been a source of inspiration for his landscape paintings.

Born in Mexico City, José Luis began painting at the age of thirteen. He studied art and philosophy in Spain, Italy, and Mexico. He holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy. Furthermore, he did graduate studies in painting and metal engraving at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (San Carlos Art Academy).

His paintings have been acquired by collectors from many countries. He has had more than 50 exhibits, including individual and group shows in the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica, and Mexico, which makes him truly an international artist.
Jose Luis currently lives in San Diego, CA, and is an American citizen who has lived in the USA since 2002.

Jose Luis is also an avid plein air painter who has taken part in the Grand Canyon Celebration of Art since 2020 and also in other plein air events in the country, like the Borrego Art Institute 2022 Plein Air invitational.
