Artist Bio

Ana María Herrera is a multidisciplinary visual artist working between San Diego and Tijuana. Her practice blends mixed media, assemblage, photography, and installation to explore themes of memory, identity, and the quiet stories carried by everyday objects.

Using materials such as aged wood, metal, textiles, and found or repurposed elements, Herrera transforms what was once forgotten into intimate spaces of reflection. Her work often evokes the feeling of uncovering something familiar yet unspoken, a reminder of the histories we inherit, the moments that shape us, and the traces we leave behind.

With a background in community-engaged art and cross-border cultural projects, Herrera has exhibited in museums, cultural centers, and public spaces in both Mexico and the United States. She is also the founder of ArtisAna Workshops, where she guides children, teens, and adults in creative exploration through multidisciplinary and expressive art practices.

At the heart of her work is a simple intention:
to honor what has been overlooked and invite viewers to connect, with themselves, with others, and with the stories that continue to live in the materials around us.

Art of the Remembered is an exhibition about everything we carry and everything we lose along the way.

In these works, pieces of wood, metal, fabric, and forgotten objects become traces of human presence, quiet witnesses of the lives that touched them. Instead of being discarded, they are gathered with care and turned into spaces that invite you to pause… to breathe… to feel.

Each artwork holds a small echo: a memory of someone’s hands, someone’s home, someone’s moment of joy or struggle. As you move through the exhibition, these fragments begin to speak, not loudly, but softly, like something you suddenly remember without knowing why.

This is art that doesn’t ask you to understand it. It asks you to recognize yourself in it.
In the textures that have aged.
In the objects that survived.
In the silences that remain.

Art of the Remembered is a tribute to invisible stories, the ones that stay in the body, in the materials we touch, and in the things we leave behind without noticing. It is a gentle reminder that nothing is ever completely lost; it simply waits for us to look closely enough to see it.
