The Echoes of Blooming: Youth Gallery Takeover

A Reason to Survive (ARTS) is a nonprofit organization located in National City whose mission is to lift young people in the South County region of San Diego to become confident, compassionate, and courageous community builders through the transformative power of creativity. This spring, ARTS youth were selected to participate in an intensive, hands-on program focused on exhibition design, gallery curation and installation to create an exhibition highlighting youth artwork from all ARTS programs.

These emerging artists had the opportunity to learn directly from a diverse group of independent creatives and museum leaders throughout San Diego. As they embarked on gallery field trips and engaged in insightful dialogues with one another, they honed their collaboration and leadership skills and successfully conceptualized and executed this exhibition.

There is limitless potential that blooms when creativity, mentorship, and youth come together to shape a future that is both intersectional and vibrant. In Bloom: Youth Gallery Takeover celebrates these young peoples’ growth, their innovative perspectives, and the bold ideas that emerged from their creative collaboration. In its rawest form, it serves as a testament to the power youth-driven creativity can yield.
